Project name: Canopy for the Co-Op Cafe
Material used: Diamond Translucent Grey
Fabric Supplied By: Contender NZ Ltd

What did the client request?

A new café had an architectural pergola structure that they wanted covered for protected outdoor dining. The structure had been in place for some months, but soon realised once they had the structure, it’s only true purpose was visual aesthetics. To make the space more functional, the architect approached us to find a solution for a streamlined canopy that looked like it belonged. We supplied and installed a tension skin canopy to the existing A frame structure

What makes the project unique?

The complexities with this project were around the fact that the structure had not been designed or fabricated with a tension canopy or skin in mind.
We had to design and adapt known canopy tensioning techniques to a structure that wasn’t designed for it in the first place, which involved technical thinking and problem solving. Health & safety tickets and considerations for working at heights was also required for this job.
