What did the client request?

The client had just recently moved into their new home, we have done work for them in the past and they wanted us to give them some solutions for shade and shelter at their new home.

They had installed a Louvre Roof and wanted to partially enclose the space so that they could use it more often regardless of weather. Another major reason they were looking at a blind system was to stop the setting sun streaming into their home late in the afternoon.

What is unique or complex about the project?

As is common we were brought in after the Louvre roof and landscaping had been done. Whatever we were to do needed to be in keeping with the high end, modern home the clients had just built. Clients elected to go for motorised blinds but wanted all the wiring to be hidden. This resulted in us dealing with two other trades (electrician and Louvre roof supplier) to figure out how we hide the wires running to the motors. We came up with a plan that required some of the aluminium louvers to be removed so that the wires could be run internally within the Louvre roof, down the Louvre support post and out through our cast bracket for the rollers, which when completed with a pelmet was fully hidden.

We also had to install 2 additional posts, one was rather straight forward however the other one, given the layout of the louvers and the house was a bit more complicated, we needed to install it to give us a place to install the blind track as connecting directly to the corner of the house wasn’t an option. Getting the post in place was difficult as the home had a recessed drain between the outdoor patio and the house, right where we needed to put the post. We manged to install the post and designed a custom flashing to hide any small gaps. The finish looked great!

What were the results of the project?

The blinds looked fantastic, they ticked every box for the client who was very particular given this was their brand-new home and was built to a very high-end standard. They went over it with a fine-tooth comb and couldn’t fault the finish! We have done many jobs for this client in the past and have had further work for them over the past year in other areas of their home.

Is there any other relevant information?

The job was completed in a tight time-frame as the clients / architect of the home were entering it in the house of the year awards. We needed to have our job completed in time for photography.
