Project name:  Aerodynamic Fins
Fabric used: Black P-Foam Closedcell 2X1 50Mm
Fabric Supplied by: W Wiggins

What did the client request?

We were approached to design and manufacture a set of foil leg fins shaped to our client’s body to enable him to compete to an international levy in his field of downhill skiing.
Our client was to travel to international events and needed the foil leg fins to enable him to achieve the best possible speed times in his downhill skiing event.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This main difficulty with this project was achieving the desired shape. This really could only be achieved by fitting the foam onto the leg and having our client stand in the crouch position to shape the foam and then mirror image it for the other leg to achieve symmetry. Our clients knowledge of what shape he was after was key and then interpreting those requirements into a functional product. This process took many hours. Our client would take the samples away for testing and come back with feedback to improve and hence the shape developed.

What were the results of the project?

Our client achieved personal best time of 210.646 kph and a 6th place in the overall world cup ranking over 11 races, and a best position of 4th place at the world cup in Canada.

Is there any other relevant information?

Although never having designed and manufactured this article we were excited to help this young competitor to achieve his best possible performance. Our part in supplying the fins contributed majorly to his success.
