New Apprenticeship Pathways for the Industrial Textiles Industry

At this year’s ATA NZ Conference in Lower Hutt, we were thrilled to announce a major step forward for skills development in our industry.

MAST Academy is now the national training provider for Industrial Textiles apprenticeships across New Zealand, offering a complete pathway to formal qualifications in this unique and hands-on trade.

Developed in partnership with the Advanced Textiles Association New Zealand, these programmes are designed to support growth, recognise existing talent, and ensure a strong, qualified workforce for the future.

Industrial textiles demands precision, problem-solving, and deep knowledge of specialist materials. MAST’s qualifications provide the structure, resources, and recognition to help both newcomers and experienced professionals excel.

Three pathways are now open for enrolment:
1. NZ Certificate in Industrial Textile Fabrication and Trimming (Level 3) – Entry-level, 21 months. Builds strong foundations for further training or an apprenticeship.
2. NZ Apprenticeship in Industrial Textile Fabrication and Trimming (Level 3 and 4) – Direct-entry, work-based training to master fabrication, design, and problem-solving
3. NZ Apprenticeship in Advanced Textiles (Level 4) – 19 months. For those with the Level 3 Certificate, focusing on advanced skills and complex projects.

MAST and ATA NZ will soon release promotional videos, made possible by the Inspiring Futures Foundation, featuring members who have successfully trained apprentices. We encourage you to share these with your networks to help inspire the next generation of skilled makers.

MAST also offers a Workplace Trainer Programme and Leadership courses to upskill qualified staff.
