MAST Academy is thrilled to announce the final development stages of brand-new industrial textile training programmes and apprenticeships! While we know it has taken longer than anticipated, we are on the home stretch now.

These qualifications are designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the exciting world of industrial/advanced textiles fabrication and trimming.

To help us launch these programmes successfully, MAST Academy is seeking your input about the potential demand for learners in each of the following training options:

  1. NZ Certificate in Industrial Textiles Fabrication and Trimming: Level 3
    This 19-month work-based traineeship is the ideal entry point for beginners. Learners will gain a strong foundation in:
    Safety practices
    Sewing machines and tools
    Interpreting CAD drawings and job specifications
    Materials knowledge
    Customer service
    Making corrections
  2. Complex Apprenticeship: Level 3 & Level 4*
    This pathway is ideal for learners without prior Level 3 qualifications who want to complete a full apprenticeship.
    Perfect for those ready for a deep dive into the trade, this 40-month programme combines:
    NZ Certificate in Industrial Textiles Fabrication and Trimming (Level 3)
    NZ Certificate in Advanced Textiles (Level 4) with strands in fabrication or trimming ( see below for outline of content for level 4)
    *Currently employers are able to receive the apprentice boost from government when an apprentice is enrolled in the complex apprenticeship.
  3. Direct Entry to Advanced Textile Apprenticeship: Level 4
    This 24-month programme is tailored for experienced individuals or those who have already achieved a Level 3 qualification (current or previous). Learners can choose strands in fabrication or trimming. Learners are required to complete a complex project from start to finish including customer interaction.
    Project planning and estimation
    Material and hardware selection
    Project Management and procurement
    Lead customer handovers and post completion processes
    Apply health and safety
    Apply relevant legislation
    Fabrication: Technical specifications and pattern development and production techniques
    Trimming: Technical specifications and pattern development and production techniques.

Level 3 & Complex Apprenticeship: Late April 2025
Level 4 Direct Entry Apprenticeship: Late May 2025
